Es gibt einige Textvarianten, u. a. für die erste Textzeile
"Hickety, dickety, dock" oder
"Dickery, dickery, dock"
und auch für die vierte Textzeile
"And down he run" oder
"Down the mouse ran" oder
"The mouse was gone"
Ein weiterer Reim wird oft als zweite Strophe verwendet:
"Hickory, dickory, dare,
the pig flew up in the air.
The man in brown
soon brought him down.
Hickory, dickory, dare."
Genauso existiert auch eine Version, bei der immer die Maus die Hauptperson bleibt:
"... two, the mouse said 'Boo!'"
"... three, the mouse said 'Whee!'"
"... four, the mouse said 'More!'"
usw.
